ONLINE CLOSING CEREMONY OF TWINNING PROJECT

“SUPPORT TO STRENGTHENING FIGHT AGAINST TRAFFICKING IN HUMAN BEINGS“

 

On January 20, 2021, the closing ceremony of the Twinning project entitled „Support to Strengthening Fight Against Trafficking In Human Beings“ was held via online platform Webex. Ministers of Interior of the Republic of Serbia, the Republic of Austria and the Republic of Slovenia greeted participants via video link, as well as H.E. Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia and H.E Ambassador of the Republic Austria to the Republic of Serbia, as well as Project leaders who presented the results and successes of the project.

 

The overall goal of the project was to contribute to meeting the criteria for EU accession and implementing the Action Plans for Chapters 23 and 24. This was achieved through an analysis of the current situation and workshops aimed at strengthening the capacity of professionals to investigate trafficking and protect victims, not only police but also other responsible institutions. Twinning project enabled an improvement of detecting cases of various forms of Human trafficking, coordination and cooperation of relevant state institutions and all partners in this field, in accordance with National and Transnational Referral Mechanisms for protection of victims of Human trafficking and examples of good practice of EU countries.

 

Within the project 47 trainings / workshops were held which were attended by a total of 680 participants, namely representatives of the Ministry of Interior, representatives of the Center for Protection of Victims of Trafficking, representatives of Civil Society Organizations, the Prosecutor’s Office, the Labor Inspectorate, Sector of Market Inspection, Shelters for children in Belgrade, Representatives of the City Center for Social Work in Belgrade, representatives of the Ministry of Justice, representatives of the Criminal Police University, representatives of the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration, as well as representatives of the Serbian Red Cross and the Institute for Children and Youth in Belgrade.

 

The commitment of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Serbia and other state bodies in the fight against Human trafficking is proved by the fact that with the onset of the pandemic caused by the Corona virus COVID 19, the project activities did not stop, but were realised online.

Best practices presented by experts at trainings in recognising all forms of Human trafficking, proactive approach and protection of victims are presented in a Manual that has been developed and will be used for further training of police officers.

 

In addition, Twinning project „Support to Strengthening Fight Against Trafficking In Human Beings“ contributed to the improvement of cooperation at the international level and the strengthening of the established Transnational referral mechanism between Republic of Serbia, Republic of Austria and Republic of Slovenia. The purpose of this Twinning project is to contribute to meeting the accession criteria and implementing the Action plans for Chapter 24 and Chapter 23 by strengthening the capacity of relevant state institutions and other partners to combat all forms of trafficking in Human Beings in accordance with European Union best practices.
