Closing Conference of the Twinning Project “Support the adoption of the Schengen Acquis “

On Friday, 1st July 2016 in the EU Info Center in Podgorica a closing ceremony was held of the Twinning project “Support the adoption of the Schengen Acquis”.

 

A closing ceremony began with a welcome speech by Mr. Vesko Damjanovi?, Deputy Director of the Border Police Sector, Police Directorate of Montenegro, Ministry of the Interior of Montenegro, who emphasized the importance of this project for MoI and Police Directorate of Montenegro. He mentioned that with this project the commitment  was confirmed  of the Police Directorate to make a progress at all levels in fulfilling standards and strengthening cooperation with EU partners.

 

H.E. Mitja Drobni?, Head of the EU Delegation to Montenegro emphasized, that joining the Schengen area is an demanding process and that the EU is dedicated in providing the necessary support to Montenegro on its path to membership.

 

Mr. Johann Bezdeka, Deputy Director General, Federal Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Austria  emphasized the importance of the project and all the achieved objectives. He also mentioned an extraordinary cooperation and support of Montenigrin employees. He also added that Montenegro is a strong partner and helps in the fight against organised crime and corruption and because of such partner also the European Community has the benefit.

 

H.E. Mitja Mo?nik, the Ambassador of Republic of Slovenia in Montenegro emphasized  that Slovenia has always strongly supported the eagerness of Montenegro to join the European Union and the Schengen area.

 

This was followed by the presentation of the project. Mr. Andres Hofbauer, MS Project Leader, Mr. Marko Gašperlin, Junior MS Project Leader and Mr. Dejan ?urovi?, BC Project Leader  presented the project – all that was done during the 21 months that the project lasted and all the achieved objectives by components. They also added that the overall objective was achieved: Strengthen the consolidation of the rule of law in line with EU acquis, standards and best practice.

 

The closing ceremony ended with a reception.
