Since 2003 AEI has been carrying
out non-profit activities, in the implementation of EU-Twinning projects,
as a networking and incentive platform.
The reinforcement of several ministries and other organisations associated
with the federal government as members of AEI, an experts-database with over
a thousand experts in all relevant fields and the rapid growing numbers of
successfully completed projects in 19 countries have made AEI to one of the
leading institutions in this area and are an affirmation to the founding idea.
In the past several years the main emphasis was placed on the support in the
implementation of the "aquis communitaires" through the PHARE-program.
In the coming years (present - 2013) the emphasis will shift to CARDS, (West
Balkan - Serbia and Montenegro), MEDA (Jordan, Egypt, Morocco, and Tunisia),
TACIS (Ukraine and the Caucasus) and the
Instrument for Pre-Accession (IPA).
AEI mobilises and motivates top-ranking domestic civil servants for EU-projects
and handles the financial and logistical management. This way the experts
can concentrate their efforts on the transfer of know-how and the efficiency
of the human resources, of the members, is guaranteed.
The successful partnership of AEI together
with the administration of the federal government and dedicated private organisations
strengthens Austria's presence in several sectors whether economical, political,
cultural or social, when in direct competition with the member states, EU's
acceding countries or in important future markets.
